The newly-formed Midwest Tribal Wild Rice Collaborative is requesting proposals for a Wild Rice Coordinator. The Collaborative was formed in spring of 2021 to enhance coordination and networking for wild rice protection and restoration across the region. The group also aims to develop a regional wild rice restoration plan (which will include GLRI native species outcomes for wild rice) and host annual in-person meetings.

Currently, the Collaborative consists of mostly tribal natural resource professionals and a few federal agency partners from BIA and NOAA. Meetings were initially held on a biweekly basis, but are now being held on a monthly or quarterly basis, with tribal volunteers leading meetings in a rotational pattern.

Tribal capacity to host meetings is limited, creating the need for a Wild Rice Coordinator. The Coordinator will be responsible for scheduling and leading the calls, facilitating the creation of a regional wild rice restoration plan, and increasing tribal participation in a regional wild rice restoration database.

Funding for this position will be supported through BIA funds for GLRI and general natural resources. The Coordinator position could be supported up to 3 years.
