This is a map of the "1854 Treaty Area", otherwise known as the "Ceded Territory". This is the area that was "ceded" to the United States Government in the Treaty of 1854. Under the Treaty of 1854, the Grand Portage Band and Bois Forte Band of the Lake Superior Chippewa retained the right to hunt, fish, and gather in the 1854 Ceded Territory. |
