1854 News, Ziigwan 2024

1854 Treaty Authority's Ziigwan 2024 Newsletter is now available.

The 2024 aerial moose survey is complete! FYI folks who are spring netting: heads up on the potential Heterosporis you might find. Within are 1854 Resource Management Division annual report summaries, and newly approved fish and turkey seasons. Consider taking part in upcoming events: Carl Gawboy discusses his forthcoming book at the 1854 Duluth office 4/8, or join us for a fish consumption safety talk in Vermilion 4/11.

Get them while they last - 1854's climate program is again distributing rain barrels for Bois Forte and Grand Portage enrollees.

VIRTUAL EVENT: 1854 Ceded Territory Climate Change Adaptation Planning

As the climate changes and seasonal patterns shift, the exercise of treaty rights and other life-ways becomes threatened. Our finned, winged, and 4-legged relatives feel those pressures too.

Building resilience to changing climate conditions is a process not an outcome. None of us are alone in this endeavor. It takes strong multi-disciplinary, multi-sector, multi-organization collaboration, partnerships, and trusting relationships to continue to ADAPT as conditions change. Join us and #BeResilient

1854 Treaty Authority's Biboon 2023-2024 newsletter is now available!

Skim through our Frequently Asked Questions, and spare yourself the confusion ahead to time ... there have been a few changes to our programs. Reflect on honoring our elders, congratulate our newly certified Firearms safety certification training participants, and learn a little more about Officer Marty Stage, to understand why we are so fortunate to have him on staff with 1854 Enforcement. A brief reminder as we approach the winter season: our office may close occasionally due to inclement weather. Please call ahead to make sure that we are open before you attempt to travel and come in.

1854 News, Dagwaagin 2023

1854 Treaty Authority's 2023 Dagwaagin newsletter is now available. We would like to point out a few changes:

  • Trying to get a hold of Officer Marty Stage? his phone number has been updated: (218) 464-8906
  • The 1854 Board of Directors approved extending teh treaty daily ricing hours to 5pm!

As Manoominike-giizis gets underway, please remember that the harvest of unripe, green rice is unlawful. Please be safe as you head to the field to harvest - consider taking a kid along and show them the ropes, and pass the skills and traditions on.

Weweni,
